Everybody involved in the Tucson Hip Hop Festival (THHF) is passionate about Hip Hop and is community driven. Hip Hop, arts, and culture here in Tucson, Arizona is like none other, so we had to create a space where we could showcase it. We exist to represent the four pillars of Hip Hop culture. We want to emphasize that local talent is our main focus but vow to include a small number of high quality artists from out-of-town/state. From graffiti to deejaying, breakdancing to rapping - you'll find it here and you'll discover what Tucson has to offer. Stretching the four elements into panel talks, movie screenings, fundraising, beat production, local vendors, local food, and photography - outside the normal spectrum of audio/visual performance - we want to create an experience that is nothing short from dopeness!
“Rarely do you get the opportunity to be a part of a pioneering event 100% in authenticity. It was an honor to be a part of the THHF.”
Justin Hunte | Head of Video Production & Development for Ambrosia For Heads, THHF 2017 Panelist
In 2015, the Tucson Hip Hop Summit served as the bite-sized, sneak preview of what amounted to be the Tucson Hip Hop Festival in 2017. The Summit took place in the Scratch Shack, a house party felt venue that put a roof over many, many local (and non) Tucson Hip Hop events. It was a two-day event in which over six hundred persons came through and showcased over 50 artists. A year later (and much master planning in occurrence), the first official Tucson Hip Hop Festival came to life February 25, 2017 and filled the whole block of 191 E. Toole Ave (five venues and one Rap Van). MURS headlined the 2017 Festival and over 60 rappers performed. Both the Summit and the Festival showcased all five elements of Hip Hop through panels, live graffiti writing, breaker battles, deejay and producer performances. #THHF17 doubled in attendance compared to the Summit, with over 1.2k attendees.
Our team, volunteers, local sponsors, the University of AZ College of Humanities and Department of Africana Studies, and the rich Tucson Hip Hop culture made this all possible.
Thank you, Tucson. We will continue to make history together!
